About Alinea

Alinea is on a mission to empower the next generation to pursue their life's biggest dreams by democratizing financial intelligence. What started as a class project is now an investing platform with over 3 million users. We're growing fast, and we're looking for a Chief Compliance Officer to build the compliance foundation that lets us scale responsibly for the next million users.

About the Role

As Alinea's Chief Compliance Officer, you will own compliance end to end serving as the firm's designated CCO under SEC rules, building out our compliance program, and acting as a trusted partner to the founders, product, and engineering teams. This is a rare opportunity to shape the compliance function of a high-growth consumer fintech at the ground level. You'll need to be equally comfortable presenting to regulators and the board as you are reviewing a Meta ad or testing a new AI-driven product feature before launch.

What You'll Do
Own the Compliance Program
  • Serve as designated Chief Compliance Officer under SEC Rule 206(4)-7, owning the firm's compliance policies, code of ethics, and annual compliance review
  • Build, mature, and scale a right-sized compliance program that supports rapid product velocity without compromising on regulatory obligations or user trust
  • Own all regulatory filings (Form ADV and related disclosures) and manage relationships with regulators, including examinations and inquiries
  • Oversee compliance aspects of our custodial, clearing, and broker-dealer partner relationships
  • Overseeing regulatory reporting obligations, including FINRA filings and SEC reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. The US AML Compliance Officer — who will report directly into the CCO — carries primary responsibility for AML/BSA and SAR obligations; the CCO provides senior oversight and accountability for this function.
  • Owning the compliance framework for Alinea’s AI initiatives in the US — ensuring that AI-powered products and features operate within a clearly defined regulatory perimeter, navigating the boundary between information-only services and regulated investment advice, and supporting the pathway toward any required registrations or approvals.
Product & Innovation Compliance
  • Partner with product and engineering from day one on new offerings
  • Lead compliance review of AI-powered features, including our in-app assistant and AI-researched portfolios, ensuring guidance, disclosures, and guardrails meet regulatory expectations for digital and automated advice
  • Establish frameworks for suitability, best interest, disclosures, and risk warnings across a mobile-first user experience
Marketing & Growth Compliance
  • Own compliance with the SEC Marketing Rule (206(4)-1) across all channels — including social media, influencer and creator partnerships, testimonials, referral programs, and in-app messaging
  • Build scalable review processes so the growth team can move fast on viral, social-first campaigns while staying inside the lines
  • Review push notifications, onboarding flows, and educational content for fair, balanced, and non-misleading presentation
AML, Privacy & Financial Crimes
  • Oversee the AML/KYC program in coordination with our brokerage and banking partners, including identity verification, sanctions screening, and suspicious activity escalation
  • Own privacy and data protection compliance (Reg S-P, GLBA, state privacy laws), including how sensitive user data (SSNs, IDs, linked bank accounts) is collected, used, and protected — especially in AI-powered features
Culture & Leadership
  • Serve as the voice of compliance on the leadership team and report regularly to the founders and Board on compliance risk and program maturity
  • Deliver practical compliance training and build a culture where the whole team understands that user trust is the product
  • Hire and develop the compliance team as the company scales; manage outside counsel and compliance consultants efficiently
What We're Looking For
Must-haves
  • 10+ years of compliance experience in financial services, with significant time at an SEC-registered investment adviser, robo-advisor, or consumer fintech
  • Prior experience as CCO or Deputy CCO at an RIA, or clear readiness to step into the designated CCO seat
  • Deep knowledge of the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the SEC Marketing Rule, and the regulatory landscape for digital/automated investment advice
  • Hands-on experience with AML/KYC programs and working with broker-dealer, custodial, or banking partners
  • Startup DNA: comfortable being a builder and an owner — writing policies yourself, making judgment calls quickly, and scaling processes as the company grows
  • A business-enabling mindset: you find the compliant path to yes, and you know when the answer has to be no
Nice-to-haves
  • Experience with crypto offerings, retirement accounts, or custodial accounts
  • Experience navigating compliance for AI/LLM-powered financial products
  • Experience at a venture-backed company through Series A/B growth stages
  • JD or relevant certifications (IACCP, CAMS, CRCP)
  • FINRA licenses (Series 65/66, 7, 24) a plus depending on background
Why Alinea
  • Shape the compliance function of one of the fastest-growing investing apps from the ground up
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • 401(k): Retirement savings program to support your future
  • A genuine seat at the leadership table with direct founder and board access
  • A product and mission you can be proud of
  • Meaningful equity
